Narrative:

On 12-23-2010 at about 0600 hrs. City officers were notified of a shooting incident in the Ivey Lane Apartment complex. Responding officers located two shooting victims inside an apartment. Yarelis Berrios was deceased, having suffered gunshot wounds to the torso. Lithz Serrano was removed from the apartment and taken to the Hershey Medical Center where she underwent emergency surgery.

Officers and detectives located a 9 year old niece to Yarelis Berrios who had witnessed the incident and then escaped to a neighbor’s apartment and got help. The girl had been spending the night with her aunt, Yarelis Berrios, and grandmother, Lithz Serrano.

At about the same time, Miguel Figueroa-Novoa arrived at the emergency room of the Harrisburg Hospital suffering from a gunshot wound to the face.

The wound was apparently self-inflicted. He had driven himself to the hospital. It is not known when he suffered the wound. He was stabilized and then sent to another hospital.

Miguel Figuerao-Novoa resided at the apartment with Yarelis and their toddler son. They had been having some relationship problems.

Miguel Figuerao-Novoa and Lithz Serrano are both in critical condition.

A teenage mother is dead, the victim of a brutal murder that's left two others, including the suspected gunman, clinging to life.

Just before 6 a.m. Thursday, they say Miguel Figueroa-N

4, came to his girlfriend's apartment at the Ivey Lane Apartments near Hall Manor.  Police said Figueroa-Novoa shot and killed 18-year-old Yarelis "Nicole" Berrios.

They say he then shot the girl's mother, 44-year-old Lithz Serrano, multiple times before turning the gun on himself.  Both Figueroa-Novoa and Serrano are hospitalized and in serious condition.

Police said they believe it started as some sort of domestic dispute.  Around 6 a.m. Thursday, they got a call from a young woman who said a man shot her aunt and grandmother.

Neighbors heard the gunshots, and those first people to respond had no idea what they were walking in to.

"He said he couldn't even enter the building, because there was just so much blood.  And then, as soon as I went upstairs, it was just ... her mom was right there. She had two bullets right there in her back and I just grabbed a blanket and just put pressure on it, and she was just calling out for her daughter, who was right there next to her, but her daughter was already dead," said neighbor Vanessa Fernandez.

Even before that, and long before police were able to determine that the threat of a shooter on the loose was over, there was further proof that what happened there was all wrong.

"There was a young girl in the home who was maybe ... 9 to 11 years old, who actually witnessed the entire event," said Chief Pierre Ritter, with the Harrisburg City Police.
