Paul D. Linhart, 42, of Marlton, N.J., and Amy H. Estes, 39, of Indianapolis, Ind., were identified Thursday following the notification of family members and the completion of a medical examiner’s report, police Chief Randy Cox said.

Both died of gunshot wounds to the head, Somerset County Coroner Wallace Miller said. The murder weapon was a handgun that was registered to one of the individuals, but Cox declined to name the owne

“I’m comfortable saying that it was a legal weapon,” Cox said. “We want to be cautious about what information we’re releasing until we review the (medical examiner’s) report.”

Estes was found on a hotel bed by a Days Inn of Somerset staff member after the pair missed a checkout deadline on Wednesday. Police entered the room a short time later around noon and discovered Linhart’s body on the floor.

Police could not comment on the relationship of Linhart or Estes or release any additional details until the completion of the autopsies and the receipt of the medical examiner’s report, Cox said Thursday in a telephone interview.

Miller said both were pronounced dead at 1:05 p.m., but he would not release an estimate of the actual time of death.
